about the palm project

Our Visions

The main vision of the Palm Project is to create a truly sustainable and holistic way to experience travel and a model of how tourism can help rebuild our ecosystems and communities.   We don't believe it's enough to preserve or take care of the environment, we are actually capable of enhancing, restoring and taking our environment beyond current conditions.

inspiration to reality

Why The Palm? The  main inspiration for The Palm Project came from a particular species of  palms named Copernicia Fallaensis which is endemic to Cuba, near  Camagüey. I have never been to Cuba but I’ve got to see a very few in  Miami. I was immediately fascinated by the beauty of these trees, they are truly unique palms -their silver-greenish tone, the rigidity of the leaflets, the size and shape of leaf and the mesmerizing patterns when the wind blows, forget it I could go on...

The real obsession began when I found out this species is in high danger of  extinction. I had the chance to attend a lecture from the International  Palm Society at Fairchild Botanical Garden about Copernicias and the  Palms of Cuba. I learnt a ton of details about them, like the fact that  as of 2018 there were only -84- adult palm trees of this species left in  their natural habitat…

Since  then the meaning of extinction and bio diversity loss really really hit  me and this idea began. I have worked on turning that into the purpose and motivation for this vision.

The Palm Project concept has been  changing and evolving over the years on how to expand consciousness on such delicate and yet critical aspects of our relationship with the environment and that can affect our lives more than what we may think. The Etsy Shop, Villa Ventanilla, the Hurricane Agatha fundraiser and other purposeful and exciting projects are some of the visions that have come to reality, having already a big positive impact on people's lives.

Gratefully,

-DZ
